Prototype anthology cover
Working with the editors of independent press Prototype and the designer Theo Inglis, I designed a cover for their annual anthology of prose, visual art and poetry.
We wanted an image that would colourise well and work on a large scale, across both front and back cover. The image also needed to sit well beneath Theo's text design, which ties the different instalments of the anthology together.
I therefore chose a large block so that blowing the design up wouldn't result in fuzziness, and cleared with the editors a design showing fallow deer, based loosely on a photo of deer in the park at the Duke of Bedford's estate.

Once I'd engraved the woodblock over several weeks, I printed the design by hand and sent it to Theo, who put it through a high-res scanner and shared colourways with the editors. We settled on a deep marine blue.
